Turner & Co Bespoke Joinery Ltd are Manningtree’s trusted, precise and heritage aware timber window specialists. Tendring is home to 20 conservation areas and over 900 listed buildings. Properties in and around Manningtree range from Victorian and Edwardian terraces on the town’s older streets to rural farmhouses, barn conversions and agricultural buildings in villages like Mistley, Lawford and Bradfield. Each type of property has its own window proportions, glazing styles and timber profiles, and replacing windows on any of them requires accurate matching rather than the nearest available size.

What Timber Windows Does Turner & Co Make For Homes In Manningtree?
We handcraft casement windows and sash windows in timber, designed and built to fit the exact proportions of your property.
Our casement windows suit both period and contemporary homes. We produce side hung and top hung configurations, with glazing bar arrangements designed to match the character of the building. For sash windows, we offer both traditional box sash designs using cords and weights, and modern spring sash mechanisms, with Heritage and Classic styling options available. Turner & Co work exclusively in timber and do not supply uPVC or aluminium windows.
Why Does Timber Matter For Window Replacements In Tendring?
For older properties in Manningtree and across Tendring, the original windows are typically timber framed with specific sightlines, glazing bar widths and ovolo moulding profiles that define how the building looks from the street. Replacing those windows with a synthetic alternative changes the proportions and finish of the facade in ways that are difficult to reverse and, for properties within a conservation area, may require planning approval to correct.
Timber can be machined and profiled to replicate those original details accurately, including the correct sightline widths, glazing bar positions and moulding profiles. It also performs well thermally when properly constructed, with modern glazing options significantly improving on the performance of original single glazed units without altering the external appearance.
For barn conversions and rural properties in the villages surrounding Manningtree, the same principle applies in a different way. Windows need to suit the agricultural character of the building, and bespoke timber frames give the flexibility to achieve proportions and finishes that standard products cannot match.
The Tendring District Council guidance on repairing and changing windows explains what owners of listed buildings and properties in conservation areas need to consider before replacing original joinery.
How Does Turner & Co Build Each Set Of Windows?
The starting point is always the profile: the sightline widths, glazing bar positions and moulding details specific to the property. We do not work from standard sizes. Our team selects timber suited to the demands of the project, machines and assembles each frame by hand, and applies a multi-coat spray finish in our Ipswich workshop before the windows leave.
Every stage is kept in house, which gives us full control over how each window performs and looks on arrival, with no on-site finishing required.
What Do Customers Say About Turner & Co?
Turner & Co approach every window commission the same way: profile the building first, build to those proportions, finish in the workshop. That consistency applies whether the project is a pair of sash windows on a listed terrace or a full set of casements for a barn conversion.
