Turner & Co Bespoke Joinery Ltd are Bury St Edmunds’ trusted, precise and fit focused timber door specialists. Every door Turner & Co makes for a Bury St Edmunds home is built to measure in their Ipswich workshop, spray finished before it leaves, and designed around the proportions of the property rather than a standard catalogue size.
West Suffolk is a district of contrasts. The older terraced and semi-detached homes found across Bury St Edmunds sit alongside rural farmhouses, barn conversions and agricultural properties spread across the surrounding villages. Doors that work for one type of property often look wrong on another. We design each door around the architecture and proportions of the building first, so the finished result fits the home rather than clashing with it.

What Types Of Timber Doors Does Turner & Co Make For Homes In Bury St Edmunds?

We handcraft the full range of external and internal timber doors, each made to your exact specification in our Ipswich workshop.
For external doors, we produce front doors, stable doors, French doors, bifold doors and side access doors. These are built for security, weather performance and long-term durability, using sustainably sourced timber selected for structural stability. For internal joinery, we make single leaf and multi-panel internal doors designed to complement the wider character of the home.
All doors are spray finished in the workshop before leaving, with no painting required on site. Turner & Co work exclusively in timber and do not supply uPVC or aluminium doors.

Why Do Bespoke Timber Doors Outperform Standard Replacements In Bury St Edmunds?
A standard off the shelf door rarely fits a period property without modification, and even when it fits physically, it often looks wrong. The proportions, panel configuration, glazing style and moulding profile all contribute to how a door sits within the architecture of a home.
Bespoke timber doors are designed to those proportions from the start. For homes within one of West Suffolk’s 48 conservation areas or those close to one of the district’s approximately 2,911 listed buildings, that level of accuracy also matters in terms of how the property reads within the streetscape. Timber is the material of choice for heritage work precisely because it can be shaped, profiled and finished to replicate or complement original joinery in a way that synthetic alternatives cannot.
Beyond the aesthetic, timber doors perform well thermally and acoustically when properly constructed and finished. A well built timber door, properly hung and sealed, will outperform a standard replacement and last considerably longer.
The West Suffolk Council guidance on altering a door explains what owners of listed buildings and properties in conservation areas need to consider before replacing external joinery.
How Does Turner & Co Build Each Timber Door?
Every door begins with the fitting challenge: the exact opening, the architectural details of the property and what the finished door needs to achieve. From there, our team selects the appropriate timber for the structural and environmental demands of the project, machines each component and assembles the door by hand.
All finishing, including spray painting, takes place in the workshop before despatch. This means the door arrives site ready with a consistent, weather rated finish applied under controlled conditions. Design, build and finish all stay in house.
What Do Customers Say About Turner & Co?
Turner & Co build every door the same way regardless of project size: to measure, in timber, finished in the workshop before it leaves. The process doesn’t change between a single front door and a whole house joinery commission. Here’s what one of our customers had to say about working with us.
