Every Conservatory Starts With Your Home
Suffolk is a county of genuinely varied architecture. A Victorian terrace in Ipswich has entirely different proportions and character to a farmhouse outside Hadleigh or a barn conversion near Woodbridge. What works on one property can look completely wrong on another, which is why we do not build from a catalogue or offer standard designs.
We start every project with a proper consultation. We look at the property, understand how you want to use the space, and develop a design from scratch based on what we find. Technical drawings follow, giving you a clear picture of the finished structure before any timber is cut.
From there, everything is manufactured by hand at our workshop in Ipswich and installed by our own team, with a professional spray finish applied at the end that protects the timber and gives a result that on site painting simply cannot match.
Why Timber?
Most conservatories you will come across are built from uPVC or aluminium. Both are reasonable materials, and conservatories are certainly made in them, but timber does something different. It has weight, warmth, and natural character that synthetic profiles cannot replicate.
On older properties especially, a timber conservatory reads as part of the building rather than something added to it. For listed buildings and properties in conservation areas across Suffolk, that distinction matters practically as well as aesthetically.
Our oak framed conservatories take this further. The structural frame is left exposed as a deliberate design feature, with hand selected beams and traditional joinery techniques producing something that looks as considered on the inside as it does from the garden.
The Full Picture
Because we are a complete joinery business, the doors and windows that form your conservatory are made in house alongside the frame itself. Timber French doors, bi fold doors, casement windows, heritage sash windows, whatever the project calls for is designed and built to the same specification as everything else. Nothing is sourced separately or handed off to another supplier. The result is a structure where every element belongs together.
Suffolk’s landscape lends itself to garden rooms as well as conservatories. Where a conservatory brings the outside in through glass, a timber garden room gives you a properly enclosed space that sits in the garden rather than against the house. Fully insulated and usable throughout the year, they suit the county’s rural properties and village settings particularly well, whether that is a working space, a studio or simply somewhere to retreat to.
Planning Permission
Whether your conservatory needs planning permission depends on the size of the structure, the type of property, and where it sits. Many projects in England fall within permitted development and do not require a formal application, though properties in conservation areas, Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and listed buildings are subject to additional restrictions, and Suffolk has a significant number of all three.
We work through this with you at the start of the project. If an application is needed, we handle it properly from the beginning rather than treating it as an afterthought.
