London kitchens are rarely straightforward. The terrace that seemed spacious when you bought it has a kitchen at the back that has never quite worked. The open plan conversion looks great but the kitchen has ended up as a run of units along one wall with nowhere near enough storage. And in period properties with strong original features, a kitchen that was never properly considered fights with everything around it.
The room gets compromised because the solution was designed for a different house.

What London Kitchens Actually Need
Space in London is used differently to anywhere else. Kitchens are often smaller, used more intensively and expected to work harder. A layout that functions well in a Suffolk farmhouse is no use in a Clapham terrace where the kitchen is narrow and has to accommodate two people cooking at once.
This is where designing from scratch rather than from a range makes the most practical difference. When every dimension is set for the actual room, storage goes where it genuinely fits rather than where a standard carcass happens to land. The layout is worked out around how the space is really used, not around how a showroom floor was arranged.
Period Properties And The Material Question
A significant proportion of London’s housing stock is Victorian or Edwardian, and these properties tend to have strong opinions about what belongs in them. A kitchen that jars with the architecture of the house is something you notice every day.
Timber is the material that tends to sit most naturally in older London properties. It has the weight and warmth that painted MDF and wrapped foil doors cannot replicate, and in a room with original cornicing, tiled floors or sash windows, that distinction is visible. For listed properties and homes in conservation areas, which London has throughout, it is often the only material that feels considered rather than convenient.
The Making
Everything is built at our Ipswich workshop and brought to site for installation. Cabinets, doors, drawer boxes, island units, integrated appliance housing, any storage that runs into an adjacent room. All of it made by hand, built to the drawings, finished in the workshop before it arrives.
The spray finish in particular is worth understanding. It is applied under controlled conditions at the workshop, not on site. The result is a surface that is consistent across every element and does not vary depending on what else is happening on installation day. In a London property where the logistics are rarely simple, that consistency matters.
