Essex is closer to home for us than most. Based in Ipswich, we are on the doorstep of the county and work on bespoke timber conservatory projects here regularly.
At Turner & Co Bespoke Joinery Ltd, every conservatory we build is designed specifically for the property it sits against, handcrafted at our workshop and installed by our own team from start to finish.
Designed Around The Property
A conservatory works best when it feels like a natural extension of the house rather than something bolted onto it. And getting there takes more than choosing a style from a brochure. It takes a proper understanding of the building, the way light moves through the space, how the garden sits in relation to the house and what you actually need from the room.
Essex has a wide mix of property types. Weatherboarded cottages in the Dedham Vale, Georgian houses in Saffron Walden, new builds across the commuter belt, period semis in Chelmsford and Colchester.
Each one presents a different set of opportunities and a different design brief. We visit the property, take the time to understand what you are working with and develop something from scratch based on that, producing technical drawings before any timber is cut so you can see exactly what you are getting.
Built In House, Start To Finish
Everything we make is produced at our Ipswich workshop. The frame, the doors, the windows, all of it comes from the same place and the same team. This matters because it means every element of your conservatory is built to a single specification, with consistent detailing and a finish that holds together as one piece of work rather than a collection of separately sourced components.
Once installation is complete, a professional spray finish is applied to the timber, giving it lasting protection and a quality of appearance that brushed paint cannot come close to replicating.
For the doors and windows specifically, we build whatever the project calls for. Timber French doors and bi fold doors for conservatory openings, casement windows for contemporary designs, heritage sash windows for period properties. If your home in Essex is listed or sits within a conservation area, worth noting that planning permission requirements will apply and we work through those with you from the beginning.
Timber Conservatories And Garden Rooms
Timber is the right material for a conservatory on most Essex properties, particularly older ones. It has a warmth and authenticity that uPVC and aluminium cannot match, and on period buildings it reads as part of the structure rather than an addition to it. Our oak framed conservatories are particularly well suited to rural and agricultural properties, where the exposed structural frame and hand selected beams sit naturally within the character of the building.
There is growing demand for timber garden rooms across the Essex commuter belt, where working from home has changed how people think about their properties. A garden room gives you a proper, insulated space that is separate from the house without being disconnected from it. For homeowners who want a dedicated office, studio or family space, it is a practical addition that a conservatory is not designed to replace.

Getting Started
Every conservatory project begins with a conversation. There is no obligation at that stage, just a chance for us to understand what you are thinking and for you to get a feel for how we work. From there we visit the property, develop the design and produce detailed drawings before anything is priced or committed to. Every quote covers everything from manufacture through to installation and finishing, and pricing is based on the actual scope of your project. Nothing is left vague or added on later.
