It wasn’t just where you cooked in the evening anymore. It was the room the whole day happened in, and it needed to do more.

Kitchens For Cambridgeshire Homes
Across Cambridge and the surrounding towns, a lot of kitchens are rooms that were never really designed. A back room that got a fitted kitchen put in at some point. A layout that sort of works but has never quite felt right. A house that has been updated in every other room except this one.
Further out in the market towns and fenland villages it tends to be a different set of challenges. More space, but older buildings with low ceilings, thick walls and utility rooms that were added on at some point without much thought for how they’d connect to the rest of the house.
A kitchen made for the room deals with all of that. Not by working around it but by designing through it.
Larders, Pantries And Serious Storage
This is where a lot of Cambridgeshire kitchen projects get interesting.
Older properties in the county often had a separate larder or pantry room as a matter of course. Many of those spaces were absorbed into extensions or open plan layouts over the years, and what replaced them was usually a handful of standard wall units that never quite made up the difference.
A bespoke larder unit changes that properly. Tall cabinets running to ceiling height, fitted with pull out shelving, internal organisers and soft close mechanisms that bring everything to the front and make full use of the depth. Some projects incorporate a marble or stone shelf within the larder too, which keeps a cooler temperature and works beautifully for cheese, pastry and anything else that benefits from it.
Where a larder handles temperature sensitive items, a pantry is really about dry goods, tins and the everyday staples that end up stuffed into the backs of base units in most kitchens. Fitted with deep adjustable shelves and full extension pull outs, a well designed pantry unit brings all of that under control in a way that genuinely changes how the kitchen feels to use.
And for larger properties where the layout allows, a walk in pantry room is worth raising early. We design and build the joinery for those spaces as part of the kitchen project.
The Rest Of The Kitchen
Everything beyond the storage follows the same approach. Base units and wall units made to the exact dimensions of the space. Island units designed as proper pieces of furniture rather than catalogue additions. Door styles and timber species chosen in relation to the property and how the kitchen sits within the house.
The finish is applied at our Ipswich workshop using a professional spray process that produces an even, durable surface across every door and drawer front. It is one of those things you notice immediately when you compare it to on site painting, and over time the difference only becomes more apparent.
